April 9, 2017 Liberian Champions, Barrack Young Contollers (BYC) took to the field at Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) to compete in the Confederation of African Football cup (CAF) against Super Sport United Football Club “Matsatsantsa.”
CAF began in 1957 and still remains the governing body for the 56 nations represented for African Football. Under the CAF authority, eleven competitions have been established, one being the Confederation Cup. The CAF Confederation Cup started in 2004 for 12 clubs and is a two phase competition. Direct elimination occurs in phase one in a home and away sequence of matches.
BYC led all during the match but gave Super Sport United a goal leading to a 1-1 draw. Because this was the home game for BYC, Super Sport United is in a better standing for the next match up. BYC will need to score at least 1-0 or 2-1 to qualify, while their South African counterparts will simply need a 0-0 draw or 1-0 to advance.
Finishing up on our sports and music edition, please take note of the new song by Christoph the Change featuring the late Quincy B. titled “The BYC Anthem”. Press play below.
Best wishes to BYC who will travel to Pretoria, South Africa to play the return leg of the playoff match on Friday, April 14, 2017.
